  2. The time of day can affect the photos in many ways. Depending on what time it is and how you shoot the photo it can change the outcome of the image. For example, if you are trying to capture a image that is supposed to portray sadness or anger but it is extremely bright out and the sun is clearly visible, the image may not show the emotions you want it to. Shooting during certain times of the day can also have an extremely good impact on the photo. When an artist decides to shoot it can dramatically alter the emotional response the viewers will have when seeing the work.

  3. The time of day when a photo is shot plays a key role in making an image what it is meant to be, emotionally and technically. Lighting is obviously a very important element of photography. Different types of lighting create different colors, shadows, and highlights in a given photograph. These characteristics can change the entire atmosphere of an image, and thus, evoke different, powerful emotions in the viewer. For example, a photo taken during a time of day when lighting is harsh may contain drastic shadows which make the photo more dramatic.

  4. The time of day can effect the emotional content of an image because it can create a different feeling to the image depending on the shadows or colors. The darker the lighting is, the more dramatic the photo seems and the lighter the lighting is, the more happy or delicate the photo may seem. By changing the lighting in a photograph, it can give off a whole different feeling and emotion for the viewer. It would not make sense to shoot a image that you are trying to portray as happy with dark shadows, likewise if you are trying to shoot a image with a more dramatic feel with bright colors. The lighting in a photograph can either make or break your photograph depending on the feeling you want to give off.

  5. I think people convey different feelings with different times of the day. Especially in films, photos, and books. They don't make it stormy outside when the main character's love has a baby just like they don't make it a beautiful day out when the character's love dies of heart failure. Using this picture for example, the emotional content is very serious and solemn. If it had been the dawn, however, I might think that this man could've been watering his hydrangeas before work. Just spitballing here. But I agree with Katie in saying that lighting or time of day can make or break a photo.

  6. The time of day effects the emotional content of the image with the change in sunlight, shadows, and weather qualities. Sunnier images, bursting with vivid colors and pleasant weather in the afternoon or morning suggests a more content and joyous atmosphere. In comparison, the shadowy and dark night or evening gives the image a solemn and moody feeling. The emotion is implied through the shadows and our general connection of certain weather to feelings (i.e. gloomy rainstorms, cheerful sunshine). I also agree with Katie that the photographer must take the weather and time of day into consideration when making an image that sends a specific message- it could be easily skewed just by choosing the incorrect time of day.

  7. I think the time of day effects the atmosphere and feel to images. I believe people have different moods throughout the day and in images the time of day reinforces this mood. Brighter and images with more light usually seem happier and brighter. Darker images that are shot at night are looked at as dark and serious. I agree with Avery that images that are sunnier and have more color, give off a joyous and more content feel. By changing the lighting in an image, the photographer can change the way someone looks at an image.

  8. I think time of day has everything to do with an image. The time of day will change the lighting of your image. The lighting of a photo can make a medicore photo a fantastic one. A great photographer knows how to manipulate light to create their desired effect. This is an important skill to have (hence why we're doing a project on it). The photographer should be able to create the emption they desire for their viewer to have and one way to do this is to use light by photographing at a specific time of day.

  9. Time of day can effect the emotional content of an image in 3 different ways, in my opinion. If the image was taken in the morning, it represents new life and clarity. If the image was taken in mid-day, it doesn't have much emotional content because it is bland. If the image was taken at night, it is more suspenseful and questioning. It is most emotional at night because it has more unknown features. That is how I think time of day can effect the emotional content of an image.

  10. The time of day can effect the emotional content of an image, because various people have different moods based on the time of day. For instance, most people see the morning as a fresh start, and so by shooting in the morning with the gentle lighting, the artist can convey a happy, positive message. Lighting in the afternoon is more harsh, with less shadows, so the message conveyed in the art will also be more straight forward and harsh. Finally, in the evening there is less light and less shadow, creating more of a somber or relaxed mood. Shooting at various times of day can completely change the effect that a piece of work has on people, because the light and shadow that comes with different times throughout the day greatly impacts what is conveyed through the work. Therefore, I completely agree with Katie, Shannon, and Avery.

  11. I think time of day can have a major impact on the emotional impact of an image. Light and dark have different connotations, light could represent clarity and happiness, and darkness could represent darkness and evil. Usually, when an image is has a lot of light, it is intended to have a happier mood than one that is taken in total darkness. So, if one were to take an image on a sunny day at the beach, the atmosphere would be one that is in most cases more cheerful than one that is taken at midnight in the pitch black or during a gloomy, stormy day.

  12. The time of day affects the emotion of an image. If it is dark out or bad weather, it can create a more gloomy, eerie, or sad emotion along with the image. If you take an image when there is sunny, nice weather it creates more happy emotion withe the image. If there is a shadow, it can make the image more dramatic. The time of day makes people feel many different emotions. It is a very important aspect of creating a good photograph and you can make people look at your image differently by the time of day or the weather.

  13. The time of day can affect the atmosphere and portrayal of an image. Take for example, a picture of a girl sitting by a tree. When taken in the morning, the lighting will be soft and give the image a refreshing feel. When taken in the afternoon, the light will be harsher and give the image a different feel than in the morning. At night, the lack of lighting can cause the picture to have a haunting feeling. The time of day and therefore the natural lighting that comes from it, can help define an image.

  14. The time of day affects the emotional content of an image because the time of day affects the lighting of a photograph, which over all affects the emotion. If a photo is shot in the morning when the sun is rising, the lighting will be soft and reflect off of the morning dew, creating a calm and relaxed feeling within the image. When the sun is at an angle, such as rising or setting, it will cast long shadows in the image, adding to the dramaticness. If a photograph is shot in the afternoon when the sun is straight overhead, there won't be much of a shadow on anything, causing the photo to be less interesting and giving it less emotion. Shooting a photo at night will give the photo more of a sad and (literally) dark feeling. Over all, the feeling and emotion of a photograph greatly depends on the time of day during which it was shot.
