What is the difference between appropriation and stealing?

Stealing and appropriation are very different but also very similar. Stealing is when you take something that is not yours and keep it as if it is your own, not giving credit to the real owner. Appropriation is when you take something that is not yours, but give credit to the owner of the thing you stole. Both appropriation and stealing involve you taking something, but the difference is if you do or don't give credit to the person who owns the thing you took.
